Recalled FCA shifter:
And now wait for it.... The Alfa 4C:

Boy, try working on that car now... not many people know about working on those.

Someone, somewhere has always been trying to automate the driving experience somehow.
Bastards.

Man, I just love the 1950sness of the teletouch. It does really show that Ford was trying to appeal to ANYONE AT ALL. Women love talking on the phone, let’s make the car just like a phone!

A few companies in the 50s and 60s were trying to make push botton transmissions a thing

That’s a part of an era that’s as f—ked up as much as it’s celebrated.

1950s telephones had push buttons?

That new FCA shifter is cute. 64 Barracuda shifter on the one I had. That lever is park.

I think push button shifters are the only sensible choice an automatic transmission. I had one in my first car (‘63 Newport).

Mayble not the only sensible choice, but you are wasting a ton of space an auto sifter that tries to look like a manual.

Yep. This is one of the reasons the steering column in my ‘59 Lincoln is teh hueg - it’s largely common parts with this setup despite being a normal column shift.

During the 60s almost every car in the Chrysler/Dodge lineup had a push button automatic at some point or another.

Dont worry, Lincoln has been doing it for a few years too and GMc is playing catch up.

The 1958 Mercury Park Lane still has the worst transmission buttons ever.

Is that in the center of the steering wheel? Wonderful. I always wanted to end up in reverse whenever some asshole cut me off.
Smacking the center of the wheel to honk the horn becomes so ingrained that I still haven’t gotten used to the fact my car has little buttons by your thumbs instead.

What, you think FCA came up with something on their own? They’ve probably been working out how to do it
since
Edsel and only now have their design done.

Chryslers in the 50s had it. 1957-58 Plymouths is where my mind is specifically.
